Nice shooting. I shoot non-expert in a 22 rimfire bullseye league. It's indoor 50 feet. I normally shoot in the 250's out of 300. I'm going to try some of the center fire bullseye matches at the club this year.

Note to self, do not piss off Adam.

Can you shoot Bullseye with something besides a 1911? How much is start up cost (I have all the reloading equipment...)

A 1911 is not required. A basic match has 3 portions. A 22 portion, centerfire portion and 45 portion.

The 22 portion is self explanatory, gotta shoot a 22. A Ruger is about the most basic gun that is accurate enough for Master scores.

The centerfire part requires a centerfire of at least 32 caliber or larger. You see everything from $2K 32cal wadcutter euro target guns to 9mm 1911's to guys shooting Model 10 wheelguns. The majority just shoot their 45 in the centerfire portion.

The 45 part requires a 45, semiauto or wheelgun. There are a couple 45 euro guns that are accurate enough. The key is to get a gun with a good trigger that is accurate. Accurized 1911's are the majority.

Some will try bullseye by getting a 22 and just shooting the 22 portion of the match, see if they like it and go from there.

Getting a capable 45 to shoot centerfire and 45 parts can be the expensive part. Ive seen some pretty good 1911's put together for less than $1k
You can get something like a Les baer or Rock River for about 1500.00 or something custom higher than that. Used guns can be found for good prices.

An out of the box S&W wheelgun with a little trigger work is usually accurate enough but shooting a wheelgun in timed and rapid fire can be a challenge on its own.

Some guys say its boring but I can say its every bit of a rush as USPSA or GSSF that I have tried.

Anytime you can get out and shoot/compete its good

+1 on that. If we ever had a duel I would need to get at least 3 shots off before it gets off 1!!! He'd probably still be a live. :)

Thanks for the Bulleye's explanation. Sounds interesting. Just need to get a .45.

Yes they are, I just cant do it consistent enough yet:(

In a 2700 match you need a 95 average or higher, a score of 2565 or more to get bumped up to master. Ive shot several 2550+ scores and havent dropped below 2500 in a couple years. Just havent got those last few points yet:blush2:

I've been shooting Bullseye since college - a long time ago - and am still only Expert. My problem is shooting a lot of different sports. Beware the man with only one gun; he might be pretty good with it.

I used to shoot Bullseye regularly. Topped out at the Expert class and didn't want to invest the time/ammo it would have taken me to get to Master. Mostly it was indoor .22, but we'd do a couple matches of outdoor and some outdoor practice in the Spring.

One year I actually won the slow fire portion of the Montana State Indoor Match. What happened was.........everybody else sucked a little more than I did that year. They were respectable targets, but I didn't deserve the win.

I still have a Benelli target pistol in my pistol box. I MIGHT get back to it some day, but it's hard to see if/when that will happen.

My brother quit shooting it a couple years after I did. He was National Indoor Champion one year. That was pretty exciting. He could shoot Master in his sleep, lol.

One of my local clubs has some indoor and outdoor bullseye matches and I've been to Summersville, WV a few times.

What about High Power?

I shoot a .22 for indoor leagues but would much rather be on the line with my rifle.

I have been thinking about putting a better barrel in my Springer and tighting the slide a bit.

I just had my 1911 made into a Match gun, but there's no way I'm expecting to get targets like that.

Ede If I recall the schedule the 1st weekend of the month is a 2700 match at Fairfield Sportsman association. 2nd weekend is a 2700; Miami Rifle and pistol club. 3rd weekend is Lexington, 2700 (which I have not shot) and the 4th weekend is an 1800 match at Lynchburg pistol club.

This goes from April till October. They have indoor thru the winter at the Cincinnati Revolver club but I havent done that.

I generally try to hit the three "local" matches.

I shot my first BE match this winter. It was a .22 match that Coach Sweeney put on at the Ohio State U.

I won the two-handed award.

(pretty sure I was the only one)

So were ya waiting for them to say "shooter ready" I dont think you would have a problem with 5 shots in 20 seconds.

I had plenty of time. lol

I recall going over, having a seat, and eating some of the food I brought...while everybody else was shooting.

My targets didn't look like the ones you posted, however. :frown2:

Hey...how do you score that top target? 100-6x ?

I can make out that 3 of those are 10's but the line is gone and I can't tell that the 4th isn't an X. Is there some kind of whole target overlay that has the lines on it?

willie_pete
03-15-2008, 07:16 AM
They do make target overlays for the guys that shoor all the lines away like this one. Personally I don't need a target overlay on my targets.

I see at least 100-6X.

I think the first target could be argued it is a 100-7X

JLarsson

I think it's easier to score if you look for the ones that are obviously "out" of the x-ring. I can see 4 distinct shots that are out. Whoever scored it at the time marked it "100-6" also.

Outstanding target no matter how you score it.

Our Clubs Pistol League is set up as a Target Match basically.

25 yards.

Any hand gun you want.

Here's my best effort from my S/W 22A.
A Fluke!

Now Willie you should know that the guy that shoots the target aint the same guy that scores it.
The original was scored 100-6x but after looking at pesticidal's overlay it sure looks like I got jipped:yesnod:

Jake that is a good looking target, those 25 yard slow fires are rumored to be tougher than the 50 yard targets.

Youre not supposed to say "fluke" youre supposed to say that it shows your true potential:sifone:

Thanks Pesty for the back up. For those who might not know all you have to do is just touch the line fo rthe next higher value. I will admit the target in question would have been hard to plug.

Now for a OT subject

I went to a meeting tonight with some High Power buddies and a land owner. Looks like Washington State will be getting a second 1,000 yard range with firing points at 2, 3, 6, 8 and 9 hundred as well. The range will point 15 degrees west from straight north with at least 10 firing points. The owner says he plans to have the range open for the 09 season. The 1000 yard firing point will be almost in the yard of a old farm place which has 2 houses plus other out buildings on it. The houses have been fixed up nicely and are currently housing for hunters during deer season.

True, although Ive protested a few as well ,but I dont recall being in a "protesting" mood when I see a target like that. 6X..... 7X... hell Im happy either way with a 100.

I shoot a few 100's but not that many:sifone:

I shot a 95 during my last round last night.

It felt soooooo good. My first round was a 76 or 78.

Then I was avg. 84 for the other 3 rounds.

Felt good to close with a nice target.

Final score was 435 out of 500.
Edit...
7/16/08 scored 450. Things are warmin' up!

Well...there is 1 more shoot left for Summer Pistol league.

As long as nothing bad/unforeseen happens, I should pull off over all 1st place.

Winter Pistol league will start about a month after the end of Summer PL.

It's been a summer of highs and lows. I had a rough outing or two... but shot some incredible groups in some of the stages.

I've been using Winchester High Vel. 40 gr. .22 rimfire.
Anyone else using a .22?

What ammo do you folks use?
