Do dies that are 30 plus years old have the same standard threads ?
A Friend at work said he has a whole box full that used to
be his Father in laws .

Thanks Bill

They should unless they are for a Lyman 310 "nutcracker" tool. I also think the old Herter's press took different threads but I could be wrong.

I know for fact RCBS and Pacific do, I got some dies dat old. Not sure about others, but 30 years ago was '79. Most a da mfr's were standardized on 7/8x14 by then

Think a all da old Rock Chuckers out there, they 7/8x14.

One a my good buds has a RC from da early 70's (If I remember right) and it takes 7/8x14

I know da old Herters had a different method of shell holder mounting, but I'm not sure about the threads for the dies.

I have an old Lyman book at home, I'll dig in it and see what da copyright date is and see what kinda info they have on the dies

I think the 7/8-14 is has been the "standard" for a long time. Herter's had an obscure 5/8" for a while with an adapter ring for 7/8 to 5/8 (I believe, but don't have first hand experience).

Perhaps one of the blue crew can verify, but doesn't the SDB take a proprietary die?

Shell holders are also pretty standard, but again there are a few proprietary holders. I know first hand that the Herter's shell holders are not "standard" but there are adapters available to make them so.

7/8-14 TPI is the industry standard anymore. Herters has always used 7/8-14 dies. Lyman used a 5/8-18 TPI on their earlier presses, and still use it on the 310 tong tool. Older 7/8-14 dies in handgun calibers often resized only in one die, then deprimed and expanded in a separate die. Most current progressive loaders require depriming in the size die. The SDB uses proprietary drop-in insert dies, all other Dillon equipment uses standard dies.:patriot:
