Usually a 23 in the nightstand.
It is the only one with night sites.
Not having small children there are guns all over the house.
Especially in the spare room.

Two unbelievably nice pups that like to leave pawprints about chest high on the door.
You don't have to be the most secure place in the neighborhood. You only have to be more secure than the guy just down the road, or at least appear to be.

I keep a 870 and Guide gun in the bedroom, a BHPmarkIII, Kahr P45 in the file cabinet, my duty Sig & Smith 642 by the computer, a GP100, SBH 44 mag and Smith 29 at the reloading bench that where I am they may be also.
No real preference. It only takes the sight of a gun to make the BG wish he chose a different house. It only takes one bullet to make it real for him.

G26 in a winchester e-safe. Before I had a kid I had a Rem 870 under the bed, Mini 14 loaded in the closet, and a 92fs in the nightstand.

For some reason I'm nuts about a marlin guide gun as a home defense gun.
I wish I had some "home defense" rounds for it in 45-70.
I only wish it could be a .75 caliber guide gun.

Why? Though it might not penatrate walls like other rounds, birdshot is not a good stopper; in a normal sized room the shot pattern is still small enough that you _have_ to aim. Your choice of course, but I think I'd stick with 00 buck.

You're probaly right, but let me explain something. My last house about the farthest I would have had to take a shot was about 15 feet. With this new house it is considerably farther, haven't taken a tape measure out yet to it. But you will see it someday probaly. I will probaly have to change the shotgun shells to 00 Buck.

Guns in your home are very dangerous, don't you people watch the news and listen to the people on CNN?
The proper thing to do is to call 911 and be there for your family while they try tolerate the unconcentual rough sex, violent beatings and other probable lethal force received while the authorities are on their way.
It is your own fault anyway, for having money and nice things. Had you not so unfairly accumulated so much at the expense of so many others, you would not be in this predicament.
Time to do some real soul searching, people.

I have a CZ75 on my side of the bed, my wife has a Sig 226 on her side, both loaded with Hydra Shock...why...because my dumb ass bought into the hype I guess. They looked like decent rounds when I bought them. That is upstairs. Downstairs I have a PA63 and a few mags loaded up with some expensive ass Hornady 9mm Mak hollow points. Two problems here...my wife doesn't actually like her dream gun, the Sig, so I don't know how comfortable she would be using it and she shot one round out of the PA63 and said hell no, too much recoil. So, basically there are no firearms, out of 19 in the house, that my wife actually likes, shoots, and/or is comfortable with so I don't think there is a good option here for her. Me, if your not invited your butt is getting some free copper/lead...lol. As for dogs, I love my dogs...barks that will scare the heck outta most people and my big dog looks scary but lets face it, as has been proven way too many times by It Takes A Thief, most peoples pet dogs are not home defense. I had to prove this to myself last time I went out to San Diego and had to go to my grandparents house. I had to go around back where my aunt has 3 dogs I have never met before in my life walking around. Walked right past em and into the house...and those are her "guard dogs".

Glocks are pretty much the persona non grata of the gun world in this house. I am really starting to get jealous of you guys with the model that shoots 3 calibers with just different barrels though. I personally don't have a valid practical reason to not like them, I just think they are kinda ugly. Never held one though, don't even know about the ergonomics of them. I don't like my wife's Sig. It is ugly, blocky, and just doesn't feel right. My CZ75 with the Hogue grips...I swear they got together and made that gun/grip combo just for me. It fits in my hand so perfectly...and I think it is a good looking gun. Add to that the only $350 price tag and the great accuracy...whats not to love about it?

When not in bed, my G33 and P226 are always within a one-foot reach.
My XD Sub-Compact, with alternating 124 +P Gold Dots and 147 Golden Sabers stays in my jacket pocket.
My kittens prefer the AMT .380 backup. :)

On me or in my nightstand - G26 w/Lasermax & 4 12rd mags; on the wife or her side - M&P9c & 4 12 rd mags. All Hydra-shok - cause I had a bunch of them.
They and the 2 very protective GSD/wolf mix are the front line until we can get to the safe - wherein lies the choice of goodies. All ready to go.
When we not home, house is alarmed with special contacts on the safe. It's on the fiber data line so you can go ahead and cut the copper phone line. :dita:

I'm not a fan of glocks at all myself. They just feel ****ty in my hand, are ugly, and just a decent reliable gun. Sigs I believe are flat out higher quality. Would I buy a glock to have in the collection at the right price? Absolutely, but I would choose a Sig over one any day.

i have a nightstand on one side of the bed, and a bookshelf on the other (no shock there, i bet) .. with a 3" mod 36 J frame on the nightstand, and a 1894 carbine and a H&R (870 clone) Pardner pump shotgun leaning on the bookshelf.
over on the pile of crap in the corner is a 7600 pump 30-06 and a couple of model 19 .357 S&W's.
m'kids got a .22 marlin in her room, and that's all our guns entirely. i guess home defense is whichever one i reach first, likely the J frame as that's generally closest.

Really?
Either you stay in your bed 24/7, or you're leaving two weapons unsecured while you're not there.

there is rarely a time when noone is here and they sit in that spot behind the door, when the door is open. And at the head of the bed when we close the door & put our bed down.
when that times does come they are put up along with the 6 long guns/shot guns sitting on the gun rack across the room.

You raise an intering point re: using slugs.
And good dogs are the best home alarm system IMO except that they can't auto-dial Brinks Security for help.
That's why I have five slugs after the first two 00 buck. Because where I live (out in the country) I believe that in order to protect my dogs when they are outside I need the precision of a slug if some wild dogs want to tangle with my family companions. I may have to wait for a ten-inch window to make its appearance before I (regrettably) would be forced to pull the trigger.
Shuck... Shuck... Ready with ghost ring sights out beyond 50-yards.
In other words, a house gun might need to also be employed beyond the walls of my home.

While I currently use a Glock 23 for home defense I am becoming a bit interested in the Taurus Judge in its many forms now that that new .410 defense round is out with the three slugs+ shot in them. Sounds very effective.

Good point on the slugs, nitesite, I was looking at things from my personal standpoint.
Our poodles are inside dogs, crate trained & in the master bedroom at night.
With both kids married & living out on their own, once I clear the bedroom door, there is NOTHING that is NOT expendable in my downrange field of fire.
And I've had to look at this same paneling for 54(!) years, as my parents put it in, so ANY excuse to replace it is valid !

2 pink papered German import GSD's with Schutzhund titles. A Sig P220 and a Winchester 1300 Defender as backup. The dogs would have a competition to see who could bring me the largest body part.
If you're an adult and supposed to be on the property, the dogs are fun to play with.
A little kid not cleared to be on the property could get away with anything but would cause the dogs to bark. An unknown kid in his early teens would be backed up to the house and not allowed to leave. The neighbor's kids all know the dogs and are allowed to come and go as they please. If a ball comes over the fence, they might not get it back until the dogs get to play a little. :mf_w00t2:
I take them to the park and they climb the ladder and slide down the circular slide with the kids. At Schutzhund competitions, they've gone from the protection phase, to rolling around and playing in a sandbox with kids. It's funny when some folks tell me I have dangerous dogs. They are dangerous only to bad people with bad intentions.
