View Full Version : Just one MORE

This is the kind of question that gets asked alot, but I'll try to phrase it a different way.

If you could have just one MORE gun what would it be?

You can keep all your existing guns, but what's the one that would cap off your collection?

For me, I think it would be a 50 BMG. Maybe an AR50 if I could afford one.

Yea a big 50 like that would be a good one to have

I was over my 50 BMG obsession then I saw a Monster Garage where Jessie blew up a failed project with a 50 BMG and a bunch of tannerite and gasoline.

Made me wish I had one.

Something belt fed.

Atta boy! Belt fed is good.

If I could afford belt fed, I'd need it tripod mounted.

Forget the tripod mount, go with a Pintle or a Ring mount :16: :biggrinjester:

Personaly I'd be looking for something with a "shellholder" style bolt and quick change barrel on a linier bearing mount with Nightforce optics, that'll reach out almost as far as the 50, but produce a much smaller group at those ranges. Who cares if you need a set of wheels to move it around :yikes:

Wow, lots o' 50cal lovers here.
I just want a nice, clean S&W Lightweight Bodyguard....Dang, I guess I would like a really nice M29-2 or earlier, at a lucky price, too:).

Sounds like you want a CheyTac 408 complete with ballistic system.

Something in a custom-fitted, aged walnut stock, custom floated barrel, brushed stainless bolt & barrel, custom adjustable trigger that a gnat's fart would set off, custom-fitted sissy pad with integrated adjustable cheek pad, all made of some space-aged gooey stuff that absorbs 89% of felt recoil, gas pistoned porting that claims the other 11% of the felt recoil, magazine-fed, in some caliber nearing the 30-06 specs, custom-fitted bi-pod that doesn't protrude obnoxiously from the bottom of the beautifully engraved forestock and topped by the absolutely most ridiculously expensive scope that civilians can buy legally... yeah, that's pretty much it. :yesnod:

Creophus, I had to look that one up.
Boltnut, what is the desired weight of the rifle?

For me I'll take a Springfield Armory EMP 9mm 1911 style. I've been lookin' for one but they seem to be scarce for some reason. Maybe it's the price they want for them that's making them hard to come by.

my next gun will be a STI USPSA single stack in .45. i have one in .40. it'll take 6 months to get the STI so something else might sneak in while i'm waiting on it to get built.

Ron, I got a chance to meet the President of the company of Chey Tac. To see that rifle in person is AMAZING. I chatted up the Prez and he showed me his ballistic system...also AMAZING. You know the more I think about it, the Chey Tac might be my choice.

It kicks the 50 BMG to the curb when it comes to accuracy.

I asked the prez, why is it so much better than the 50 BMG? He said, "the 50 BMG is 50 year old technology."

BoltNut,
As far as I know there's no restriction on optics for civillians. Get you a NightForce or a US Optics scope. Probably only run you $4K -$6K.

Either a 4" S&W 629-4 or..

A T/C Encore with several barrels including blackpowder. One firearm.

The 50 BMG has been around since the teens. He needs to check his math. ;)

416 Barrett, 460 Steyr will also complete with the Chey-Tac round.

However, bring your wallet with any of those. Mine as well buy a CNC lathe to turn bullets from brass, save you some $$$$ over buying new at $1+/each.

WELL now... my oh my are there a lot of options if you think broadly enough.

I'm torn between something simple & practical like a .22lr rifle ooooooorrrrr....

Something like an M1 Abrams tank, or a Comanche stealth helicopter, or an F22 / F35.

I could go for one of those SUV's outfitted with with one of those Dillon Aero's or miniguns, whatever they call them. Just trying to make Mogollon proud.

Realistically, something in 28 gauge, maybe one of the prettier grades of an LC Smith or an Ithaca (the older the better).

It would get plenty of field use.

I would like a nice pump .410 or a lever gun in one of the revolver calibers I have. A .357 magnum brush gun would be great for hunting in the hill country or over in Oklahoma. I have a 94/22 and like it a lot. Shooting a lever gun takes a little getting used to for some, but, I like them

MakeMineaP99

I wouldn't mind one of these as well. A rifle that can chamber any round, go from 22-250 AI for shooting varmints, to 460 Steyr for elk at 1000 yards or two legged varmints.

I'm quickly losing my taste for factory rifles thanks to you.

I guess I've been pretty lucky, in that there isn't much I either don't own, haven't owned or haven't fired. But if someone was to offer to buy me ONE firearm, anything, of my choice, I would probably have to go for an original 1874 Sharps in 50 caliber, with long range sights, a genuine hide hunting era rifle. I have several repro Sharps, both Shiloh and Pedersoli, I have original trapdoors in 45 and 50 caliber, and I've fired a few originals, both percussion and cartridge.
Belt-feds are fun, but to really enjoy them you need a proper target.Same with a 50 BMG , either rifle or Ma Deuce.
My second choice would probably be either a French MAT-49 SMG or a CZ-24/26 SMG. These are the two SMGs I think offer unique designs.

Yeah, I have trouble with a lever gun, myself. Must just be to used to bolt guns.

Easy to fix, Dan. We have the technology, and the hardware.

If I had to choose a Last Acquisition for some reason, it would be a mechanically-sound Colt New Service revolver in 45 Colt. Kinda pedestrian, I know--but these were assembled well, and with good dimensional integrity between throats and grooves--unlike many of the S&W Model 25-5 examples from the late 1970s and early 1980s. An Anaconda in 45 Colt would be a second choice, but I imagine there are a lot more NS examples out there than Anacondas in 45 caliber. This one is an itch likely to get scratched in the near term.

Ron, I'm thinking that since the cost issue is out the window on this one, I know I'd have to expect about 8-10 lbs in walnut alone, and with a full mag of 5 rounds (for hunting season), a bipod and scope, stainless steel... something under 12 lbs is probably realistic... but I'd certainly settle for LESS overall weight with all the anti-recoil attachments in place! :yesnod:

Rugby, perhaps we can keep an eye out for each other on the web for one! :)

I figure I'd want a good bolt action. Probably 300 Win Mag, as when the Zombie Apocalypse happens, I'll be able to raid more stores for that then some of the more fancy calibers.

I am SO boring compared to you guys. I've got a G21 and a G23, but would like a G19. Or a .357 Marlin lever gun. Or a .32 H&R Marlin lever gun. But that's it. I think. :)
