Does anyone have one or has shot one? If so what are your thoughts? I was thinking about picking one up. I know everyone is gonna say get an AR, I'm gonna get one for work eventually. So does anyone have any personal info?
There's a really weird dude I see at a local shooting range that has one and I saw it up close. Nice looking but I know nothing more. Sorry. I will add that the Mini 14 is IMO a better rifle than an AR. Flame suit on. :yikes:
rock river advertises their varmit and target rifles good for 1/2" at 100 yards. that's all i need to know along with the availibity or parts and cost of magazines.

I like my Ranch Rifle cuz it's light, handy and fits me (with an extended recoil pad). It's my go-to walking varminter. The Mini 14 Target eliminates those attributes. I looked at 'em, but don't like 'em.
BTW, I've addressed the accuracy issue with a few inexpensive mods. Mine shoots 2 moa with anything you wanna feed it, and even better with it's pet load of a 40 grain NBT over 25.8 gr of RL 10X.

Not flaming, but what do you base that upon?
I don't see the point of the mini now that the AR is so accessible.

AR-series rifles are largely disallowed in CA. There's ONE reason to keep them around.
Oh, and Mini-14s are deputy-proof........AR-15s are not. At all.

Bingo. They are more simple to work on & clean than an AR and use a far better trigger mechanism for battle, the time proven Garand style.
It's fine & dandy that people can turn an AR into a tack driver, however that defeats its reason for being. i.e., a reliable battle rifle able to function in the harshest conditions. Since study after study has shown that almost all modern battlefield engagements are 300 meters & under a rifle that shoots even 2 MOA is acceptable.

Now I understand why the Mini isn't used for battle. :biggrinjester:
I don't have any personal experience with the mini since I don't own one. It just seems if you're gonna make it tactical, might as well go with an AR.
The people that I know who like the mini is because it has more traditional features. No plastic.

For reliability, and the ability to shoot any kind of crap made out of spec ammo, the Mini is the USA version of an AK. It really just the crappy mags and past shoddy barrel manufacturing on old-old tooling that makes it less accurate and unreliable. I ain't getting rid of mine. It's stainless too, could take a helluva lot of abuse and still work where if an AR got dented, it's out for the count.

I wouldn't trade my AK either. So, to each his own I suppose.

It's not that I don't like the AR, I dig the hell out of mine, but I wouldn't feel out gunned with my Mini-14 or 30, given I had more reliable mags. Too bad they offer replacement barrels.
Of yeah, I don't have any experience with the target Mini. I do know that after slappin' on a Butler Creek Folding stock it seems to group a bit better since the stock is a lot more tighter fitting.
Even more. I like Mr. T.

I have posted it before that I prefer the looks, ergonomics, and design of the Mini when compared to an AR. But, I will not own a rifle that is that inaccurate.
OK just so i understand this, having an accurate AR is pointless but an inaccurate Mini, or other firearm is acceptable. would it be wise of me to get rid of my accurate rifles and get something a little less accurate? does this carry over to the bolt guns too or just the self loaders? if i wasn't planning on going to war would the inferior trigger in the AR be better or would i be ahead to change it for something else? i'll be willing to bet come august all the service rifle shooters on lake erie will have rugers.

The reason I'm thinking about the Mini target model is my brother wants my stainless/synthetic model. Here in California they want $900 plus for a stainless model, if you could find one. I'm going to sell him mine and upgrade to a target model. I can pick one up for $800 through a local LE dealer. So it's a win/win for both of us. I plan on using the target model as a coyote/plinking gun.
There is a tool bag on youtube that is shooting 300yrds with one and it seems to be a lot more accurate.
