I recently purchased (haven't used) a Lyman casting thermometer. Any opinions, good or bad about this particular thermometer?

Don't know.
I have an RCBS and it works way better than testing against bare skin. Lyman prolly is better too.

I suppose pretty much any thermometer works better than bare skin.

You guys have $300 thermometers to check the temp on lead you got for free in order to cast your own bullets? I think mayhaps you both have a little ERB in ya.

Just 'cause the thermo meter "cost" $300 dosn't mean they "paid" $300.
I've been known to salvage "inoperative" and obsolete equipment from work myself. I've re-routed a couple digital calipers, gauge blocks, check weights, dial bore gauge sets, height gauges, granite surface plates, hydrolic Greenlee punch set, Scott Air Packs, etc from the green dumpster they were heading to, to the "4 wheel gray dumpster" I drive home at night.

I knew a guy who was a manager at a major grocery store. When he asked a merchandiser for a beer distributor if he knew where he might get some beer signs for his home bar the distributor obliged in exchange for a few more feet of shelf space. Once his corporate office heard about this the manager was fired from a $75,000.00 job, ouch.

That has happened more than you may think. I work for a large grocery store and that happens everywhere. Some get caught and have to pay the price. I know of a few store directors and a market director that similar things happened to.

If your store is large and making money it can be a 60-70 hours a week job, the managers work their butts off.

Before I went back to school, I was a manager in a few different departments for a supercenter. I made decent money and worked long hours, especially during the holidays. Store directors can make over 100 grand no problem. Market directors even more.

I work those hours now and make half of that.
