I am really struggling with this one folks. I have been trying to get this right on my 9mm cases since yesterday, and I cannot seem to figure it out. It it either too much, or too little. What is "just right"? (I spend my time loading .223, so I am new to this side of it.)

I don't have a pic handy, but you want just enough to get the bullet in the case. Are you loading lead or FMJ?
If its lead you want to make sure you're not shaving the bullet. In both cases, you should be able to sit the bullet on the mouth of the case and it not fall off or fall to one side.

I am loading 115 Grain Remington JHPs...
Freak, is that Just About Right?
ANd the bullet should just sit in the case, not tip to one side or anything?

I think a series of pictures showing the popular cases from a side view would benifit them the most.
I try to use as little bell as I can get away with. You don't want to have to hold the bullet all the way into the die. It should be able to sit straight enough to make the journey with no help.
That being said when you run a minimal bell and mixed cases sometimes you will have to guide a bullet in. Sometimes you have to use a tad more force when you set the bullet on top of the case.

If you have a 550B look in your instructions. If you don't look at this link.

I find I can use less then they recommend depending on the bullet.

The bullet should sit, not tipping to the side.

If I am loading copper jacketed bullets like Ranier ballistics or Xtreme or berry's I do not apply any belling.
As long as I can get the bullet in with out it stripping the copper or crinklying the case.
With lead bullets I aplly the least amount of belling with out cutting smileys.
So here is the picture of how much I bell. Wait I don't so there is no picture.

I set my Die with the least amt. of belling so as to NOT shave the Lead. I leave the adjustment alone for Jacketed Bullets.
I agree,Not tipping of the Bullet shall occur after it is placed in position.
YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary)

I finally got it a few minutes ago. It only took about a dozen cases to get it figured out...but I did. Just enough flare to have the bullet sit in the case, and no more...worked for me.
Thanks Guys...

personally, it looks like there is WAY too much belling on the case in the pic.

On the Dillon powder measure, you have to flare the case enough to ensure that the powder measure is fully activated. The manual suggests flaring the case mouth .020" larger than the sized, unflared case mouth measures. My personal experience is that about .010" flaring will suffice. You can't go much less than that, because minor variations in case length may cause the measure to not be fully activated.
Just measure the case mouth on a sized case, and aim for flaring at least .010" larger than that.:blues:
