I want to make sure I am not making a mistake. Before I buy a 10mm G20 I need to know just one thing. In the end all I want my 10mm to do is replace my .357 as my woods gun. So I want good deep penetrating lead bullet. 180gr/200gr. Current .357 load is a 180gr @ 1375ft per sec (Buffalo Bore Specs). I obviously will be hand loading for this one. My Reloading manuals are pretty light on 10mm info. Most is about 100fps short of this data. I am willing to go with a fully supported barrel, stronger spring, etc.

Nice find. Seems my goals/desires for 10mm are a bit beyond what is recommended.

180gr jacketed 9.7gr 800X 1320fps 34,200 psi
GT-10 Reload has data up to 10.1gr of 800X. Best to work slow and chrono map.
#9 is good stuff. I've loaded a 180gr XTP to 14.5gr streched to 1.265" OAL with no pressure sign. CAUTION OVER MAX PUBLISHED: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.
For 10mm, use CCI350 magnum primers. Load to 1.26; 1.265 if your gun will feed it.
Longshot is the next gen HS7; cleaner, less charge weight. Hodgdon's 9.5gr with a 180gr XTP can be streched a bit in most guns. 9.2gr is an excellent load, scary accurate, but won't win a race at 1250fps. Will take down a black bear for sure.
To wring the snot out of the 10mm you need Blue Dot, Longshot, #9, or 800X coupled with a long OAL to lower pressure, a CCI magnum primer, and goddamn carefull workups. Chrono map LAMF.
Blue Dot and #9 need to be compressed. 800X meters like ****. Longshot is cool. Meters fine on my 550. That 9.2gr load makes my nipples so hard they can cut glass. I love that load. WORK UP TO IT. Max is 9.5gr, but work up from 8.5gr. LS is pretty smooth, but can bitchslap you if you ain't payin attention. HS6 is a bronco. Going good, gets your confidence up and then it goes bat**** crazy and kicks your ass. Don't push it too hard or you will be picking yourself up off the ground. For real.

For 10mm, use CCI350 magnum primers. Load to 1.26; 1.265 if your gun will feed it.
This is probably not the correct post in which to address this, but why are CCI350 magnum primers the only magnum primers I see recommended for use with the 10mm? Wouldn't other magnum primers work as well, to the extent that magnum primers were needed for a given load?

CCI primers are preferred for quality and usability, in that you can push a load harder with CCI350s than you can with Fed mags or WLPs (dual purpose).
I have tested every major primer from every major manufacturer both standard and magnum primers. CCI primers are more consistent, produce better ballistics, can be pushed harder, and are usually more available than the other brands.
The only time I use magnum primers in 45 Auto is when I run Blue Dot.
ETA: For 10mm, use standard primers with HS6 and faster, or when charges are less than 10gr. Longshot can be used with either, but work up.

I can't keep up with a hot loaded 9mm with my stock Glock 20 barrel, but I can overload my Bar Sto aftermarket barrel.
13.2 gr 800X 200 gr 1.3" is the most I have ever got the G20 to shoot, and that had a little case bulge.
My G22 40sw can do 15.5 gr 800X 200 gr 1.171", but has an insane amount of recoil.

Are you using mag primers in the 40? My rule in 10mm is 10gr of powder or more gets a CCI350.

My experience is that mag pistol primers add more pressure than velocity.
I have not learned to bush primer pockets, yet, but that is how the 6mmBR can get astronomical sustained pressures.

Most data I see uses the WLP primer, which is a dual purpose primer that is used for either standard or magnum charges. I prefer to shoot dedicated magnum primers. I get cleaner burns with CCI350s than with CCI300s or WLPs.
