Some of us are poor and have to work nights at the 7/11, we do not have a Dillon 1050 and call our fellow members "Plabeans" and members of the lower classes. Some of us have to feed our families and ferrets, we can only dream of owning a 91/30 from Big 5 and a Lee single stage press, and a few components to reload with, it must be nice to be rich!!!

Calm down. You posted this in a reloading forum, we don't worry about factory ammo prices, which is why you got the response you did.
We live in a capitialistic society, this is not about class warfare. Most of us are hardly rich, however, we devote time and money to this hobby of ours. For many of us, shooting and reloading consumes all of our spare time. We don't drink, smoke, go to eat, or spend money gratuitously.

I think the reason most of us reload is to save money because we're not rich. You are right though, it must be nice to be rich. Pull up a chair and ask a bunch of questions and learn about the best hobby in the free world. Then you could go broke trying to save money. :cheers2:

Respectfully, I disagree. Maybe not in terms of todays dollars, but in the long run, in real dollars, prices will go down.
As far immediate relief, you are correct.
The solution is simple. We need to get our arse out of Iraq.

I don't see metals or gasoline going down in price. I think the slow inflation of the 90s is catching up with us in this decade and prices are righting themselves. I have serious doubts that anything is going down in price on the consumer end of it.
Would be nice, but I'm not an optimist.

History repeats itself. Why did metals drop after the Hunt Bros. drove up the prices in the 80s? Why did oil drop after the 70s?
The cure for high prices is high prices.
OPEC, like any cartel, is it's own worst enemy. Eventually, the Saudis are going to become greedy and the buddle will burst.
The pendulum swings both ways.
Inflation is running right at 4.2%, which is the historical average. We're approaching the upper end of the limit, but we have yet to see the stagflation of the 70s.

I got some Blazer (aluminum) and CorBon 10mm with my latest purchase, and I can't believe the prices on the boxes - $20 per 50 of the Blazer (200 grain TMJ), and $16 per 20 on the CorBon (165 grain JHP). It's costing me $25 per 100 with 155 grain XTPs.

I hope we are nearing the end of the swing, but I fear $5/gal won't make a change.

Them XTPs are pricey. Accurate as all get out, but pricey. I leave those for hunting and carry ammo.

After I'm done with this, I'll probably stock up on Zeros.

I'm sure the original OP is a nice guy, maybe just a little misguided in his thinking, at least he's working and not living off the government. It would be nice for him to further his education and get a better paying job.
To the OP, there are some really great people around here willing to answer your questions and offer advice, the one thing they don't tolerate are attitudes. Buy equipment and components as you can afford, none of us started out with everything we needed or wanted. If you can curb your attitude you'll find yourself more than welcome around GP.

What do any of you have to gain by giving happyferet a hard time?
It would have been really easy to say, "Yeah, what better reason to reload!".
Bring people into our hobby. Don't throw them under a bus.
Ferret, I don't know what ammo cost and if you hadn't posted I wouldn't have known. I can tell you this though... bullet moulds are mighty damn expensive and my money gets spent one way or the other in our hobby. Nothing worth buying is cheap.
This month I've bought a .458 405grain rnfp gas checked bullet mould and a 2 banger 250 grain .430 gas check rnfp. That's about 200 right there. Now I can't afford the damn handles!
And all that would matter if I had a lead pot to cast from or a lube sizer. Ain't got either.
All I've really got is a 550 with no components to make ammo and a growing pile of wheel weights and ingots. Oh well.... Better days-o-commin.
Yep. One step at a time. I spent my entire fun budget for pretty much the rest of the year on my G23 & enough reloading stuff to get me into next year. By then if components are any more expensive then they are now I'll be looking into casting equipment also.
If I'm really lucky, I'll come by some good overtime at work & make enough to buy the G20 I'm getting interested in. We'll see. It don't grow on trees, that's for damn sure!

There is a lot more competition for the raw materials these days. Manufacturers have a lot more markets for their goods also. The price of gasoline and ammo will not come back down. Back in the 70s and 80s the US was THE market, that ain't so anymore. OPEC does not have to back down on their prices, because if we don't buy their product, they know that the Chinese, Indians, and everyone else will. This is only going to get worse as the Chinese become more prosperous and start buying more cars and vehicles.

The original post reminded me of the Catholic High School girl going to the Convent to complain to the nuns that she cant achieve orgasm with her boyfriend.
IMO if you are shooting regularly and want to shoot regularly in the future you could hedge your hobby by purchasing reloading equipment instead of buying factory ammo.
You already have come to the correct conclusion that prices are not coming down. (Your ahead of alot of shooters in this regard).
Rich has nothing to do with it, I can witness to this. NO Blue here. (We can all dream). One reason I load is I cant afford to shoot as much as I want to with factory only.
I would suggest you save that ammo money and set yourself up to handload. You can load almost any caliber for less than $100. After that your ammo cost is a fraction of factory and Reloading Central would help you develop more accurate and reliable ammunition and would be a great resource for deals on components.
The sooner you start, the more you'll save in the long run.
Looking forward to your " My press arrived today" post.
Welcome to Reloading Central.

What is this? You come in here and complain about feeding your family and your ferrets and say you can't afford a Lee single stage press?
If you had asked nicely, someone would probably have sent you a press and some components for free just to get you on your feet.
Heck, I have some 9mm RCBS dies that I could send you.
The people here are really nice and very generous, but very few of us are rich. I know I'm not.
Do you know what the term "CRB" means? You won't find a group of people more concerned about saving money and buying things on the cheap.
Why not go about this a different way and see if there's anyone near you that can take you under their wing and show you the ropes? You could probably use their equipment to load up a bunch of ammo in the process and save a bunch of money.
We all know ammo prices are too high, that's why we reload!! Our complaint is that we only save 25%- 50% over factory ammo because components have gone up!!
The way I see it you have 3 choices.
1. Keep complaining and keep shooting factory ammo.
2. Keep complaining and stop shooting.
3. Quit complaining and start reloading.

Yammer, that isn't nice to kick the OP when he's down. He appears to be trying to get ahead with his position at 7-11, at least it's a start. It's obvious he knows little about guns and even less about reloading. There may come a day when he can elevate himself from his apparent squalor and joins the ranks of the haves (those with Dillon presses) Until this day arrives, we should treat him kindly and act like he isn't different than the rest of us.

I found out the following: he actually does work at a 7-11, is 43 years old, still lives with his mother, doesn't reload, doesn't own any of his own guns and only shoots when his friends (with their guns and cars) take him to the range. I can appreciate him wanting to learn about guns, he should have been upfront about his level of knowledge.
