I have a Remington 22-250 that shoots very well. Last week I answered an ad for a Winchester model 70 Coyote in 22-250. This model has a blue action and stainless light varmint taper barrel. The rifle of interest also had a Weaver T24 scope mounted and came with 100 rounds of ammo loaded by the seller. A stack of targets showed groups from the low "3"s to the low "4"s. It was too cheap to pass up. What do I do with two very accurate 22-250s? I just hate to sell a half moa rifle.

KEEP THEM BOTH!!! DUH!!!!

You might gravitate toward one or the other with some time. If money's not a problem, then definitely hang on to both of them. You may be able to take a friend or a new shooter out and really enjoy them.

Put them muzzle to muzzle and pull both triggers at the same time.

This should help cull out the weak members of the species.

Rebarrel the 700 with a barrel from Doug Shilen, Dan Lilja, etc. in 22-250 Ackley. Blueprint the action. Bed and do the stock work or put on your choice of stock from Houge, McMillian, etc. Do the trigger with a jewel. Throw a scope on and you'll have something that will shoot in the 1s at a hundred (100 thou).

As an added bonus, 22-250 Ackley is one hell of a round, that duplicates the Swift or maybe beats it a bit on water capacity. One of Tailgunner's shooting buds has dropped deer with his 22-250 Ackley.

MMP99,
That thought has already crossed my mind. The Remington is already in an HS Precision stock and wears a B&L scope. May have to ring up Brownells.
Cohutt,
I bought a bucket full of Ballistic Tips in 224 diameter years ago from a commercial reloader who was going out of business, so no need to cast for it yet.

BoltNut, I'll bet you'd enjoy a 22-250. Only problem would be that you can't take it deer hunting.

So where the heck are the pics SC????!!!!!

No .22cal allowed in Floridia? Out here it is technically legal, since it is centerfire and makes over 1000ft-lb@100yrds. I wouldn't do it, but it is legal.

Legal in GA too. 22 cal centerfire or larger.

With the right bullet its just fine, they make several heavier jacketed 22 bullets for larger game.

Do you all have an energy requirement at all? I know some places are like us and allow .22 as long as it does the 1000@100 thing, some are any .22 centerfire, and some don't allow .22 at all. Dang sure ain't a problem taking a deer out with a .22-250 or 220 Swift with the right bullet. Here is a real good read about using a .22x64 (.22-06 basically) on some African game.

Colorado's regulations on rifles for large game are as follows:
1. CENTERFIRE RIFLES
a. Must be min. .24 caliber (6 mm).
b. Must have min. a 16-inch barrel and be at least 26 inches long.
c. If semiautomatic, they can hold max. of 6 rounds in the magazine and
chamber combined.
d. Must use expanding bullets that weigh min. 70 grains for deer, pronghorn
and bear, 85 grains for elk and moose, and have an impact energy (at
100 yds.) of 1,000-ft. pounds as rated by manufacturer.
e. It is illegal to hunt game birds, small game mammals or furbearers with
a centerfire rifle larger than .23 caliber during regular rifle deer and elk seasons
W of I-25, without an unfilled deer or elk license for the season. A
small game license is required.

Unless I'm wrong it's gotta be greater than .22 cal for deer in Florida.

ETA: Now that I'm looking at the Florida regs, I'm not sure. It only says no rimfire may be used. Maybe .22 centerfire is allowed after all.

Buck & Jason got into it in Okeechobee over this very issue, recently...they were making the same arguement over "it isn't rimfire" (whatever they were considering).

I'm not sure I'd want to risk it.

We used to take squirrel with .22's and a scope, but some buttheads ruined it for everyone several years ago with the whole "dangerous up to two miles" thing on .22 boxes.

Uhh, so you can't squirrel hunt with .22s anymore? WTH you supposed to do, blow em apart with a 12ga?

creophus

BoltNut are you talking about taking squirrels during the off season/non hunting areas?

A .22 rimfire doesn't have the range of a centerfire cartridge.

On most of FL's WMA's, you can only use a shotgun to take squirrels (or any small game animal for that matter).
