Just curious, how long have you guys been running your 550's before having to send it to the spa for a refurb. Approx how many rounds before you start see major wear or parts failure?

There is no set answer for when to return the press. When things aren't shiney and new it might be time. I've never returned a 550, just a couple of SDBs when they probably had close to 100,000 rounds per.

550 would be a loooong time, even with ham handed operators.
the 650 I sent in was at least 12 years old, and Mogo figured out I was probably the 3rd owner. It was due.

At least every couple million rounds.

Provided you lube the shaft and link arm pins at least once every couple of years, and clean the primer feed every few thosand rounds, it should be 1 million rounds at least before anything significant is worn out. The most we have been able to verify on a 550 was from a commercial loader who had receipts for a million rounds of 9mm for police training. We cleaned it, lubed it, replaced the primer slides, and sent it back.:blues:

Not bad. At 500rds per hour, that's 38.47 hours per week just cranking out 9mm. I'd definately go 1050 for that volume. Decrease labor, increase profit.

He should have gotten a Load Master if he really wanted quality.

OK that number was assuming loading one million rounds in a year. I'm sure the guy did it over a few years.

Load Masters are proof the big guy upstairs enjoys a joke too.
Someone needs to set up a rig that automatically cycles the handle continuously. Just let the thing run at a steady pace stopping it once a week to check for slop in the action. I wonder how long it would go before wear would result in enough slop to make the press unsuitable for reloading without a refurb?

I knew if you stick around long enough, someone will ask a question you've had yourself but thought it might be a little silly to ask.
