OK, so for years and years I have reloaded my ammo. and for years I have been hiding away lead. sure I have casted lead, but just the simple poor mans way. cheap mold, and a little alox. But now that I am wild catting and finding that my loads """" several guns long and short""""" are not doing sufficiant enough with just alox. so heres the question.

"yes Dan I know get a star "

Ok so I dont really want or have the money to be droping hard coin for a star sizer and luber. I was kinda thinking about the Lymann with the heater ? and running some of that wonderful lars red that Adam sent me. "thanks by the way pan lubing the 500 is going much better" I kinda want to not break the bank. I have two good molds that say what the top punch is supposed to be for the bullet. but I have several lee molds and such that dont say what the top punch number is supposed to be ? how do I go about figureing that out?

I know that you need the sizer as well but those are kinda easy to figure out.

do the lymann's ever come up for sale used. "I knew I should have never sold that one to slick" or does anyone have one that they want to let go or trade out. what is the best bang for the buck as of right now?

I know that I am going to need some more molds for sure. mainly 7mm, 30 cal, 22 cal, and one other that I cant think of.

anyways any help would be great.

I know I shouldn't say anything, but for high volume pistol, the Star is the way to go. Knowing how you shoot though, the Lyman/RCBS should be fine, since you do a lot of rifle/magnum handguns that require gas checking and not as high of volume as the IDPA/IPSC guys.

Lyman's come up for say from time to time, check ebay, cast boolits, etc. Either an RCBS LAM2 or Lyman 45/450/4500 will serve you well. Tony had one, you should have told me you needed. ;)

Cast boolits has some reference lists for punches vs lee molded boolits. It is somehwere in cast pics maybe? or a sticky.

I got my Lyman 450 used from the bulletin board at the local range. For what its worth, I lube witht he Lars Red and do not have a heater for mine. I find that if I do need some heat, I give it a shot with the heat gun for a couple of secnds and everything flows great.

I just checked and there are a couple of 450s and a 45 on Ebay right now. Although the prices aren't that good.

If the pan lubing is working OK for ya you may be able to get by with a Lee push thru sizer.

If youre set on a Lyman sizer they have a "wanted" section over at Cast Boolits that you could probably get some results from, worth a try...

Boomer if you have a C&R you can buy the Lyman with the gas check seater and heater for $123 at Graf's. That's the one I bought. It works great with Lar's red.

To find what top punch for a Lee mold I usually find a similar bullet design in a Lyman mold and get the top punch for that.

Cohutt speaks truth again. Click on top punch references about half way down the left hand column.
