My dad just called me and said my 45s chronod at 1470 fps. I've only had the chrony for about a year and used it once. This was his first time with it. The 357s and 38 were in the right range out of a revolver.

He mentioned that the chrony was about 3 ft away, which seemed too short.

My thought was that the chrony was picking up blast from the gun and messing it up from the semiauto and maybe it wasn't getting the same blast from the revolver shooting 357s and 38s.

He also said that it didn't have too much of a kick to it. 1500 fps would surely blow the gun to hell.

Any thoughts or have I made some light recoiling 45 super mags?

What's the recipe, and what were they fired from?

Probably unburnt powder getting picked up.

Three feet is way, way to short. Minimum is 10 feet, standard is usually 15 feet.

5 gr. of 231 under a 200 gr is pretty light. Maybe the 231 was exposed to gamma rays in the factory. :yesnod:

3 feet is definitely too close.

Forget the chrony, though - who's that in your sig pic with you?

Yep, 3ft is too close. It's picking up the muzzle blast first. Back the chrono off to at least 10ft, I prefer 15ft. If you could safely get 1500fps, you would certainly feel the recoil.

I keep shooting the chrono with pistols, but I am a good shot with rifles.
I built a 45 acp rifle in ~2001 that will take the hottest loads.
13 gr AA#5 230 gr FMJ, I can shoot a 4" 20 shot group at 100m.
With that, I could easily miss the chrono and get data, but it would be with a 26" barrel.
