I ordered a few different things to try with my new 1911. I ordered a new trigger, main spring, sear spring, and sights. I plan to swap one part at a time and see what I like, and what I don't like. The parts are cheap enough that I can afford to try a few things to see if I can make a 1911 any where near as good as a Glock trigger. :2:

Be careful, you will learn how bad a Glock trigger is:2gunsfiring_v1:

That's just crazy talk! :28:
To be serious I have shot some very nice 1911 triggers, but with a little polishing and a seven dollar connector the trigger in my G19 rocks! I can't imagine how good a 1911 would have to be before I didn't like my Glock anymore. We shall see......

A good 1911 trigger is like a bolt gun. Glass.

I never was a big fan of the sharp breaking triggers. The beauty of the 1911 is you can make it feel however you like.
You hear a lot of bullseye guys talk about a roll trigger which basicly is some creep. But done well its so smooth and makes for a great feeling trigger.
The main thing is to get it setup how you like it. Some guys want it crisp, some a small roll and some a long roll.
If you have no idea then get just a crisp to slight roll and it will allow you to shoot as accurately as you and the gun will allow.

I want it to feel like a marshamallow slamming into a stack of GRAHAM crackers at high speed.

Well last night I fit the new trigger. Nice and slow to be sure I didn't screw it up. Came out real nice and I like it much better that the factory one which is way too short for me. Also changed out the main spring and main spring cap. That got rid of the stupid lock and took away the progressive feel of cocking the hammer. It's much easier to cock and do a press check now. Next was the sear spring. The new one even looked better than the factory. The edges were nice and clean and all the corners were square. That also softened up the trigger quite a bit. As long as I was on a roll I changed out the sights. Got rid of the tiny GI sights and put on a set of white dots. Dressing down the front sight to fit the Springfield tennon hole was slow, but in the end it came out nice. My home made staking tool worked good too. Now that I know it works I need to heat treat the tip. The white dot sights are much better, and faster for getting on target. I think I will like them quite a bit. I was a little uncomfortable about wacking a hammer on my new gun, but that's what it takes. Dressing the dove tail on the rear sight went like normal. Slow with lots of trial fits. Now I need to try to get to the range and see how it shoots. I seriously doubt I would do anything else to it without first getting at least another thousand rounds through it.

How's the new trigger fell, EPT? Like glass?

Much better than it did. The factory trigger would get tight, then creep about 1/16", then get tight again, then break. Now it has virtually no creep, and a nice clean consistant break.

Just like a bolt gun. Good to know. I may get a 1911 yet. I've been giving some thought to selling the 220.

The whole rounding out the collection thing. I'm looking for some stuff just to say I have it. Pre 64 Win 94, Win 63, Model 12, you know, the classics. I'll probably get a C&R 1911 though, knowing me, something that saw service. Blueline's one I shot earlier in the year has stuck with me. At one time or another, knowing that a sidearm in your hand was used by a GI to save his life is something very powerful.

Put a Savage 99 in that list too. Gotta be in something cool, like a .250-3000.

It was slow going dressing down the large tennon to fit a medium hole, but I think it came out pretty good.

Yeah, I'm trying to think about what would look good against the park finish. All black has kind of been done.

Man you can go in 1000 different directions with 1911 grips. All kinds of wood, smooth or checkered, many synthetic materials, on and on

That's the problem. There are so many choices your head starts to spin. Every time I see one I like, I have seen so many that I forgot the last one I liked, and now I have no idea which one I like more!

Skull and Bones? You got something to prove? ;)
Playboy bunny? Umm, I think Mrs. EPT might have something to say about that one...
I ain't touching the other two.
Some ivory or mother of peral grips would give that gun some bling bling. ;)

When I bought mine, I also got a set of Mahogany diamond checkered for $12.95 from Sarco as well. Looked great, but them things would eat ya hand up. Checkering was jes cut too sharp or something. I don't know where they at now, 'round here somewhere I reckon.

One of the major regrets of my life was not buying a set of Gov't model grips when they were on Evil-Bay.
You know the ones, synthetic ivory, had the naked chick wrapped in the stars & bars.
Never see them any more. Oh well!

That's the version for yankees. Being from Kentucky, I get to choose which one I want.
The rebel girl looked a trifle classier, as I recall.
Of course, everybody knows the difference between a southern girl, and a northern girl.
