I loaded a batch of 38 Special today because Norine and I have to renew our CCW permits next month. I needed extra 38 Special because Norine has decided she wants to add my snub nose to her permit, and she has only shot it once. I need enough ammo for her to practice, and both of us to qualify with. I'm sure she will do fine with it.

Pay the fee, fingerprints and form. No pic here. IN LTC looks like a business card.

Well here you have to sit though a four hour class, then shoot a qualifier course with every weapon you want on your permit. If you fail the shooting you wait till everybody is done and shoot it again until you get it. It's easy enough to shoot, but by the time you are done you have lost a whole day and a bag full of money.

Have a good stiff drink when you get home. I've put on a fair amount of class for MI CPL and they suck, quite literally, it's an all day event. You mentioned previosuly it's something like $500 all said and done (I hope they include KY).

I recall a thread over on the S&W Forum where a VERY respected member described shooting for qualification with a 1911 in order to get his annual renewal.

It started with the target at 5-yards and he stared at it until he knew where the 10-ring was, and then he placed a field stripped 1911 on the shelf in front of him. Then he blindfolded himself.

He assembled the pistol and then inserted a mag while blindfolded, and shot blindfolded at the B-27. Three full mags.

When he finished, he removed the blindfold and discovered that his score was good enough that (with the other rounds he needed to fire at 10-yards) all he needed to do was hit 50% in the 7-ring to get his permit renewed.

I'm surprised any instructor would permit blindfold shooting.

Here once you qualify with a revolver you are good to go for any other revolver. For pistols they go by caliber and make so my P220 covers me for any Sig .45, but not any other .45s or other Sigs that aren't .45. Since I'm not flush with money it really don't cramp my style, especially since my snubbie is all that gets carried at the moment.

In Colorado, it's requires an 8 hour class every ten years, a pic, and payment ($152 for first permit, then $62 every five years). Our instructor out here only charges $75 for the class. Oh yeah, there is no gun specific requirement on permits. You can qualify with a .22, and carry whatever you want.

Indiana lifetime permits are $100 plus a $25 processing fee. No classes or qualifications.
