View Full Version : 550B flipping primers...and other stuff

My 550B is flipping the primers once they go into the primer tube. I am using small pistol primers made by federal, and am wondering what is going on. Other times, they seem to almost be stuck and will not come out of the tube. Out of 300 rounds loaded over the course of about 3 hours I found that I had loaded several that either had the primer backwards, or did not have a primer at all.
Any ideas?

Be sure you have the correct sleeve in place in the primer tube. There is a large & small sleeve.

Really? Hmmm seems I only have one. That is probably the issue.

I loaded about ten rounds and realized it came setup for large primers. I was getting primers flipping over. It was easy to see once I opened my eyes.

Did you change the primer slide when you set it up? If you didn't you're doing the same thing I was doing. You need to change the primer magazine and the primer slide to the small setup.

I was the same way. I tried to make up some .38 rounds and had to pull out the instruction manual to figure how to de- 45-70 my 550

Sounds like you have the large primer tube sleeve in there. The same thing can happen if you mix up the primer pickup tubes.

Be sure your primer system is properly cleaned and free from debris and other junk too.

I checked it, and sure enough, it needs to be cleaned and such...I am going to pull the rounds that go messed up and use the correct primer tubes. I think the one I was using got mis-color coded...the tips may have been mixed up.

The primer cup was the first thing I checked, and it was ok. However, the primer tubes were mixed up...oops. So I will fix it here shortly and get to it!
