I FINALLY got around to loading a few rounds .45-70 which I'll be testing shortly.

I used a 400 grain cast bullet, courtesy of Yammer, with 49 grains of IMR 3031 with an OAL of 2.550.


Y'all wish me luck. I've loaded over 32,000 rounds of pistol ammo and, now, 4 rounds of rifle ammo. Man, I hope I did everything right.

When I started getting 400+gr moving around 1700 fps I decided I liked BP velocities much better. That load might get you there.

The process wasn't very smooth on the 550, so I borrowed an Orange Crusher(?) from a friend today. I'm going to mount it tonight and try my hand at single stage loading.

I shoot that load and I can attest that it will let you know it's there.
I only load a few at a time tho'

me too ... then I remember shooting the .44 mag 1894 with the 23g H110 loads... a few would have been ok prolly but I always over do ...
