Very reassuring to hear, Uncle Albert. I have put in the hours.
Eazy, our Mosquito is pretty darn accurate. The sights are half-decent, too.

I shot a box of Fed. lightning as a single shot (too weak to run the slide) and the box of Thunderbolt all ran OK. Sights and accuracy fair to good for plinking. Walmart had Win bulk 555 (gilded/HP listed 1280 fps) for $18 otd. First bulk anything I've seen in many months. I'll try it tomorrow.

Win bulk ammo will run as long as the gun is slimy with oil. As the lube gets worn off, the mag spring pressure will stop the brass of the first round shot. Dried out it will run 6 or 7 rounds loaded into the mag. Heavy slide, heavy hammer spring, and strong mag spring all contribute to the prob.
No variety of ammo here, Monte. I try to shoot whatever Wal Mart has at the time I am there. BTW: My Buckmark runs all 3 mentioned ammo types like a champ.

Follow up: If you want a pistol that runs out of the box with available fodder and do not want a project; I suggest Browning or Ruger. This is a well made little gun designed for high pressure heavy bullet weight ammo that is not readily available in my part of the USA.
Sig tells me that they have no spare parts (springs etc so I can cut and experiment) but they will sent a UPS ship order if I want their CHERMAN/DEUTCH gunsmith to examine it. The ship order offer was a pleasant surprise.

Mine is ammo sensitive too. I read the book that came with it and it said it would function better with lower power ammo if you switched to the lower power spring that was included.
I went to the local gun store to get another magazine and they gave me one that was made of plastic and wouldn't work. I took it back and they found a metal one and traded me.

I think the biggest problem the SIG Mosquitoes have run up against is the expectation by a lot of buyers (Marie and I among them) that the Skeeter would be a sub-caliber trainer for the centerfire SIG pistol line.
Disappointment Central. The early ones were NOT reliable like the hallmark centerfire models, and only one double-action handgun in my safe has a worse D/A trigger stroke--a Nagant revolver in 7.62 x 38R. End of Bad Things. With its several assorted safeties, the Bug can be carried Condition One (cocked and locked), and that is how I hunt with it. With the consumption of over 2K Mini-Mags, the pistol is now reliable and pretty darn accurate. The sights are very good. So it isn't all down-side. Would I recommend one to a friend? NO. Would I buy another one? HELL NO, I'll get a Ruger self-loader that eats everything and costs $100 less.

CZ, after 2 K through that mag, If you start using a new mag; will the gun again gag like a new one?

Couldn't say one way or the other, sir. We got a second mag at the time of original purchase, and I haven't been able to isolate a magazine as being part of any problem (yet). The feeding anomalies happened with both mags initially, and over time have steadily decreased in frequency to the point of about one in 60-75 rounds. It will start stuttering after 200 rounds if you don't clean it, but it's not the only 22 LR self-loader in my experience with that issue.
SIG-Sauer centerfires and Ruger 22 LR autoloaders have spoiled us rotten. So did a Walther PP x 22 LR I once had (groan.....).

After several days of searching I found the spring that came with the gun.... After comparing the 2, the one in the gun is longer and thinner than the one in the pack. I swapped it and it feels like the new spring is stronger. The original spring is a long thin gauge spring, while the new one is prolly a 1\4" shorter and a heavier gauge. Slide seems kinda stiff now. I'll try it tomorrow and see what the difference is.

Not sure on that. I do know that they don't do well with cheap ammo, at least mine don't with either slide spring in it.

I just tried 10 rounds of many years old Win Super X I borrowed from Jawja. Ran fine dry and dirty. And locked back empty for the first time. There is definitely something to ammo quality issues.

I agree, 4Eyes.
We have an old Winchester self-loader, a Model 290 that my Dad bought with trading stamps about 1965 or so. I don't recall any function issues with the things as a kid when he and I and others took it out shooting for its first 10-15 years of life. Then it sat. For 15 years or so, it went unfired. It had good oiling, so no metal degradation or other corrosion is present. I dragged it out circa 1997, and using mixed ammo it ran just fine after I detail-cleaned it and re-lubed it lightly. I put it away after a good preservative application, thinking a nephew or daughter might want it at some point. 2004 rolls around, and despite the kids taking most of the 10/22s off my hands, the 290 was still in residence. I clean it up and re-lube it, then sally off to the range with some more recent bulk-pack ammo for grins and jollies. The thing was barely a capable bolt action with ammo that ran fine and shot accurately in a number of other rimfires. What the (blank)?? I did have some Mini-Mags along for the ride, and a tube full of those ran like water. The Dynapoints--loaded next--went bolt action. With 6 or 7 ammo varieties on hand, the 290 balked on every one EXCEPT the Mini-Mags. That is known as a CLUE at my old job site. The Mosquito came along soon after this sequence, so when it got moody with The CRB Stuff......having seen this same movie earlier, I grabbed the Mini-Mags and got the thing running to some extent. As time goes on, The Bug gets better and better. The End. P.S. I'd still get a Ruger pistol. Some ammo of recent production absolutely sucks.

Like deja vu, CZ. I got a very good price for a '63 edition Win 290 a couple years past. I put a Williams front sight on it ~20 years ago and it had been in the locker since. Took it to the range with some bulk ammo and it ran fine. It went home with another shooter that just had to have it. I have one of the original walnut 10/22s that has been unused since the early 80s. Think I'll get it out for a trial sometime this spring.

Continued ammo trials:
Tried 3 more recently. Ely high velocity is single shot--not one function from a 50 round box. Will not run the last few in the mag. Fed Classic--will run 5 or less in the mag. Full mag is a single shot for 5 shots. Rem Target runs fine, functioned 100% in a dry gun and a locked back 5 times in 5 full mags shot. Woo-hoo, I have nearly a case of Target. Should run the Mosquito for a while. So: I have found 3 types of ammo will run the Mosquito: Win Super X, Rem Target, and CCI Mini-Mag. Any additional recommendations?

Found in the stash a brick a Mini-Mag and 5 boxes a SuperX. Been savin it in hopes of findin a picky gun that wouldn't shoot bulk stuff. Gotta love those aristocrats!

Went to the range with a semi dry, semi dirty Skeeter and shot up the remaining Win bulk 555. Skeeter is starting to shoot in. All the bulk 555 functioned 100% except the slide did not lock back after the last round shot. Still has the crappiest trigger in the safe. Double or single action.

Most that we've sold will run on Mini-Mags, one functions just fine on Rem. Thunderbolt, and one refused to work at all, on ANYTHING ! The man didn't want a hand job repeater, so it went back to SiG. He was so happy, he bought a new Ruger from us & told us to put the SiG on consignment when/if it ever gets back !
Listening & reading about these make me glad I bought a Whitney Wolverine ! It took about 600-700 rds. to break in, but it works fine now, with all of it's mags (I bought 6 extra). And the extra mags don't cost $40.00+ like the SiG ones do. Still haven't had a SiG apart for trigger work & don't plan on it ! uncle albert
